Of Murky Gloam: a meditation for solo flute (2022)

for solo flute

Duration: 4:00

Premiered by the composer's wife, Courtney Lyons.

Note:

Of Murky Gloam: a meditation for solo flute invites a contemplation of the ambiguous shapes of late dusk, as the light of day fades to the dark haze of night. All of the pitch material in the piece is derived from only three core melodic intervals, which are explored in a variety of distinct figures that are connected by this single characteristic. The work also makes use of special techniques, such as movement through the air-tone spectrum, glissando through lip rolling, and singing as an echo. The composer originally wrote the piece for his wife, flutist Courtney Lyons, to premiere.
