Emerald Renewal (2020)

for flute, cello, and piano

Duration: 4:30

Note:

Emerald Renewal illustrates the blooming beauty of the natural world. Life and death are mere points along a wide-reaching circle. The journey along this circle is taken by the flute and cello, lending a form to the work. The flute begins in the lower extreme of its range and through the course of the piece grows upwards to its highest extreme before drooping down to its original position. The cello inverts this shape by beginning in its prime, using the upper register, and decays over time. At the closing of the piece, new life is born out of the remains, completing the cycle of renewal. This work was written for inclusion in the NOW Music Society of West Chester University’s new music concert.
